Desert and stories - 2

The main vine growing area was located in Lower Egypt, particularly in the Nile Delta. Numerous illustrations of vine growing and wine production go back as far as the Old Kingdom. The vines were planted in gardens, separated by walls from ordinary fruits and vegetables. The plants were grown using pergola structures where they did not take the shape of natural arbors with the help of wooden rods. Workers provided water and fertilization (pigeon dung). Once they were ripe, the grapes were hand-picked by men, women and children and pressed in troughs.
